Milestone Moments

Developmental milestone guidance and resources for parents and caregivers

Welcome to the Early Motion Matters Education Hub — a centralized collection of free, evidence-informed educational resources designed to help parents and caregivers understand early childhood development from birth through age five.

These resources are part of Milestone Moments, our educational program focused on supporting awareness, observation, and informed conversations about development.

How to Use This Resource

Developmental milestones describe skills that children typically develop as they grow — including movement, communication, learning, and social interaction.

The milestones referenced in this hub align with the CDC developmental milestone checklists, which were updated in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to reflect current developmental science and clinical practice. These milestones are intentionally selected because most children are expected to achieve them by specific ages, helping caregivers and clinicians identify when closer attention or discussion may be appropriate.

This hub is designed to help you:

  • Observe your child’s development in everyday settings

  • Understand skills commonly expected at different ages

  • Support development through play and daily routines

  • Keep track of observations using simple, practical tools

These materials are educational and are designed to complement — not replace — guidance from healthcare or developmental professionals.

Please note that you do not need to use these resources all at once. Many families return to them periodically as their child grows or when new questions arise.

Understanding Developmental Milestones

Whether you’re familiar with pediatric developmental milestones or want to understand how they’re used, we recommend starting with our introductory page, which covers topics such as how milestones are identified and updated, why they are tied to specific ages, and how caregivers can use them to support timely conversations and screening.

Each age-based section includes milestone information across key developmental areas, caregiver tips, printable resources, and links to trusted organizations. Please feel free to explore earlier or later milestone ages at any time to better understand developmental patterns.
