Early Intervention Services

Find support for your child.

Early intervention refers to a range of services and supports designed for infants and young children with developmental delays or disabilities, as well as their families.

For children ages three years and older, if you have developmental concerns, contact your local public school system to request an evaluation. Public schools will assess both developmental and educational needs.

If, on the other hand, your child is under three years of age, each U.S. State, Commonwealth, and Territory operates its own early intervention program (along with Washington DC), with specific guidelines for eligibility and available services. You can contact the program in your area to learn more about what is offered.

These publicly funded programs typically provide services at no cost or at a reduced cost for children who qualify. Below you will find a list of contact information by U.S. State and Territory.

Please Note That…

Not every child who is evaluated will qualify for Early Intervention services. If your child is not eligible, but you still have concerns:

  • Continue to monitor your child’s development over time

  • Use milestone checklists and resources to track and support growth at home

  • Talk with your child’s doctor about any ongoing concerns and ask them about other options, such as private therapy or community-based programs

You know your child best. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s always okay to keep asking questions and seeking support.
